The Bermuda Triangle (百幕達三角)
The Mary Celeste continued to sail(航行) until 1884, and lives on in legend(傳說). But ships sometimes disappear without a trace(痕跡), especially in the Bermuda Triangle. Captain Williams thinks seaquakes may heip explain this mystery as well.
This famous corner of the Caribbean Sea has swallowed(吞下;吞沒) hundreds of ships and planes, and strange(奇怪) experiences happen there. Captain Don Henry told of a queer(古怪的;奇怪的) white fog(霧) that made his compass(指南針) sain and drained(耗盡;排出) the electricity on his ship. The fog enveloped a barge(駁船;平底船) he was towing(拖;拉;牽引). Only with great difficulty did he pull the barge free of the fog and escape. The electricity came back on , and the barge , he said, felt strangely(奇妙地;不可思議地) warm. Even Christopher Columbus wrote that his compass went crazy in the same area.
Theories to explain the Bermude Trangie include UFOs, sea monsters(海怪), the lost city of Atlantis, freak(反常地;怪異地)waves(浪) (which can be 25 meters tall), whirlpools(漩渦), time warps(扭曲) and portals(入口) to another dimension(次元;維度). Skeptics(懷疑論) laugh and say it's just coincidences(巧合) and legend. They point out that shipping disaster(災難) tales from around the world (including that of the Mary Celeste) strangely change location to the Bermuda Triangle as the stories get retold.
