The man behind Live8 (Live8 的推手)

Bob Geldof is a rock star, but not an ordinary one. Like a lot of rock stars, he is famous for having a filthy month and writing provocative songs, but this rock star is a hero to millions-perhaps billions-because he really tries to bring more justice into the world. Really trying means more than  just singing about it. Geldof  makes it happen.

Although he had written a couple of number-one songs in the late 70s, and starred in the 1982 film Pink Floyd: The Walls, it was not until 1984 that he became a true international superstar. It was good deeds that made him a superstar, and he has remained a superstar by continuing to do more good deeds.

Bod was watching TV reports on the famine in Ethiopia in November of 1984 when the inspiration hit him. He called up his friend, Midge Ure of the band Ultravox, and together they wrote a song called Do They Know It's Christmas. It was quickly released as a charity single, sung by a large group of famous British musicians. The song touched the  hearts of millions and became the biggest-selling single in UK history (until 1997). It raised millions of dollars in aid money to help the Ethiopian people who were starving.
