An extra, extra, extra famous gum (超級有名的口香糖)

In 1981, young William Wrigley Jr. set out for Chicago from his hometown of Philadelphia(費城) with only $32 in his pocket. He was just 29 years old, but he wasn't worried because he had a box of soap(肥皂) from his father's manufacturing company, and he was a talented(有天份的;有才幹的) salesman.

In Chicago, William Jr. started giving away cans of baking powder as a promotional(促銷的;宣傳的) gift to help sell the soap. The baking powder was more popular than the soap however, so William soon switched to selling that. Then he began giving away free chewing gum with each can of baking powder. Once more, the promotional gift proved more popular than the product. William sensed(意識到;察覺到) an opportunity.

He began making Juicy Fruit gum and, a few months later, Wrigley's Spearmint. Both brands(品牌;商標) proved very successful, and the company made lots of money. In 1914, he introduced(提出) a third successful brand, Doublemint, which was named after a unique double distillation(蒸餾) used to produce the mint(薄荷) flavor(風味;味道). The advertising campaign(宣傳;活動) for Doublemint, featuring(以什麼為號召) pictures of twins(雙胞胎), is one of the longest-running in American history.
