He'll take home $30,000 in cash, scholarships（獎學金） and other prizes.

ABC News called 2005 "The Year of the Bee." Spelling bees also featured（擔任要角；作為號召） in the 2002 documentary（紀錄片） Spellbound, which was nominated（提名） for an Oscar. One of this year's hits（成功） on Broadway(百老匯), the 25th Annual Putnam Country Spelling Bee, was nominated for six Tony Awards.

As ABC News suggested, spelling bees appeal to "the inner(內心的;內部的) geek(書呆子) in all of us." But it could also be just the numbers. Ten million kids, in 264 regions(區域;地帶), compete(比賽;競爭) to get to the finals(決賽) of the National Spelling Bee. That's a lot of parents and all their friends! Adults say the pressure isn't so great, but you have to wonder how the kid who finishes 264th in the nation feels.
