The Curse of the Mummy (木乃伊的詛咒)
A curse(詛咒) is a prayer(祈禱) or spell(咒語) meant to bring misfortune(不幸;惡運) to someone in the future. Perhaps the most famous curse in the world is that of the ancient(古代的) Egyptian Pharach(法老王) Tutankhamun, also known as King Tut. Some of the people who first entered Tutankhamun's tomb(墳墓;墓穴) died soon after, and most of the rest(安息) died young according to legend. But again the legend appears to have only a little truth to it.
Some scientists do believe ancient germs(細菌) inside tombs may sicken those who enter, and Pharaohs' tombs certainly do have death curses written on the walls. "I don't believe in the curse of the Pharaohs, but people love it," Zahi Hawass told the Taipei Times recently. He shound know. On January 5 he opened King Tut's coffin(棺材) for the first time so the corpse(屍體) could be given a CT scan(電腦斷層掃瞄).
Before resealing(重新封裝) the coffin, Hawass left a note inside. "It said that I hope that in the future no one else will take the mummy out of the coffin, and that if they do then the curse of the Pharaohs will be on them. "The CT scan was used to recreate(重建) the face of the young king. The new image appears on the June cover of National Geographic(地理的), with King Tut's famous gold death mask(面具) in the background.
